8106 SILICONE PIGMENT (FLESH)
The 8100 Series liquid pigment dispersions are designed to be compatible with all BJB silicone systems.
BJB liquid silicone pigments are designed to rapidly disperse into the system. These pigments are typically used by adding approximately 1-2% by weight of pigment to the material system. Many silicones are translucent and will take on color quickly. In some cases, adding more pigment to a translucent silicone may cause it to become opaque. Filled silicones, that are opaque/white naturally, may require higher pigment loading in order to reach the same depth of color as a translucent silicone. It is always advisable to test a small sample of material to evaluate how it responds to pigmentation.
Please review the notes below PRIOR to adding pigment to a silicone system:
- Liquid pigments may have a negative effect on a material’s physical properties if too much pigment is added.
- When working from large containers (5-gallons or drums) it is advisable to only pigment the amount of material to be used, especially if more than 2% is added. Stored materials may have a shelf life reduction due to pigmentation.
- The final hardness of a system may decrease due to pigmentation; the severity depends on pigment loading. In some materials, the change is permanent (5-10 points), and in others the hardness slowly increases to the expected value over time.
- Pigment may be added to the “A” component of the silicone system or the final A/B mixture.
